How do I record audio and add it to my web site? Step 1: Record Your Audio First, use any software that creates MP3 files from a microphone attached to your computer. The iMax audio player uses the MP3 format because the file size is smaller than many other formats. If you do not have MP3 recording software, you can download the free trial version of Record Pad for either Windows or Mac at http://www.nch.com.au/recordpad/index.html This program records files as MP3, WAV, and Aii formats and is available as a 14 day free trial (available for purchase for $38.20 at the time of this posting). Record Pad is a one trick pony and easy to use. Read Record Pad's help system for directions on use. Mac users can also use Garage Band which is included as part of Mac OS X4 or OS X5 to record MP3 files and add music to recording. In our opinion, Record Pad is easier to use. Brief directions to record audio using Record Pad software: 1. Set Record Pad's "Preferences" to record in MP3 format: • Click "Preferences" button, then "Output" tab, and set "Output File Settings" to MP3. • Click "Format Settings" and set file size to "Bitrate" of 16 Kbps to create a small file size. 2. Use a microphone attached to your computer to record speech (all Macs sold in the past 4 years have a built in Mic). You may need to connect a microphone to your soundcard if you are using a PC. 3. These are the Record Pad program's control buttons: • Record = start or resume recording. • Pause = pause recording. • Restart = erase recording and start again. • Stop = stop recording and save file to playlist. • Playlist = view / name saved recordings and download saved recordings. 4. To save your recording, click "Playlist" button and click "Disk" icon to name and save your MP3 file to your computer. Step 2 (editable iMax sites): Add audio to your web site using iMax editing tools (if you have an HTML style web site see below) Once you have created an audio file, add it to your web site: 1. Log into your iMax site. 2. Upload your audio file by clicking on the "Web Site" button and then clicking "Upload New File." Follow the on screen directions and save as audio file. 3. Go to the web page you want to add your audio to by clicking the "Web Site" button. Choose "web pages" the right hand column, find the page you want to put the audio on, and click the "Edit" link for that web page. 4. Select where on your web page you want the audio player to be located and click into the nearest "Select New Section To Display" drop down menu. Scroll to the "MISC" section at the bottom of the drop down list and select the "Audio Player" option, then click the "Add" button. 5. Select your audio file from the drop down audio list. 6. To have this audio file start playing immediately when the web page is viewed by a user, select "automatically play audio when page opens." 7. Click "Add." If you selected "automatically play audio when page opens," audio recording will start immediately. 8. Notes on iMax Audio Player controls: "Pause" and "Start" controls are located on the left side of the audio player and the "Volume" control is the on right side of the player. Step 2 (HTML style iMax sites): Add audio to web site using HTML If you have an HTML style web site, here's how to add the audio player: (you will need to know HTML to make this change yourself, otherwise you can hire an iMax web designer to implement this for you) 1. Log into your iMax site. 2. Upload your audio file by clicking on the "Web Site" button and then clicking "Upload New File." Follow the on screen directions and save as audio file. 3. Go to the web page you want to add your audio to by clicking the "Web Site" button. 4. You will see 1 or 2 HTML code editing sections on the page, depending on whether you have previously checked off the box for "Use this version for both Public and Private." (in which case you will see only one editing section.) Click into an HTML editing section and read through the code to locate the place on the page you want to place the audio player. 5. The format of the code to display the audio player is: <INCLUDE:AUDIO:yourfilename.mp3> You will need to make one change to the code: Replace "yourfilename.mp3" with the name of the file you have uploaded. 6. Once you have made that change, copy and paste the code into the spot in your web page code where you want to place the audio player. 7. Note: If you have 2 HTML editing sections on the web page (one for public and one for private), you will need to add the audio player to both sections. The easiest way of doing this is to select (highlight) all the code in the section you just modified and copy it. Then highlight all the code in the other editing section (the one you have not yet modified) and paste the new code into the section (because you highlighted the code that was there, it will result in it being replaced by the new code when you paste). 8. When finished, click the "Save Changes" button. |
