How do I add an RSS feed to my web site? These instructions detail how to add an RSS feed to your iMax web site using the free product Spring Widgets. 1. Go to the web site that offers the RSS feed you want to add and find the URL for the feed. (example: go to bankrate.com and click the "RSS feeds" link they have all the way at the bottom. The feeds they offer are shown in a list that displays the URL for each feed.) Highlight the URL you want to use and copy it (control C on a PC, command C on a Mac). 2. Open up the Spring Widgets web site in a new browser window. The URL is: http://www.springwidgets.com/widgets/view/23. 3. In the upper left portion of the web page, you will see a box that says, "Customize this widget." Click the arrow to the right of the "Customize this widget" text to expand the box. 4. Clear the existing RSS feed that is part of the widget, which reads, http://feeds.feedburner.com/springwidgets. You will see this text in the large text box in the "Customize this widget" box. Select the text and delete it so the box is blank. 5. Click into the smaller text box field directly below "Feed URLs" and paste in the URL of the RSS feed you copied. (control P on a PC, command P on a Mac) 6. To add the feed to the widget, click the + sign located next to the text box you pasted the feed URL into. To see if your feed has correctly been added to the widget, look at the visual preview of the widget located to the right of the page under "RSS Reader Widget." If your feed was correctly added, you should see some stories from your feed displaying in the widget preview. The URL for your feed should also have moved from the smaller text box that you pasted it into into the larger text box that you previously cleared. If the feed did not add correctly, repeat steps 5 and 6 to try again. 6. You can customize the display of your RSS feed if desired. You can edit the width and height (in pixels) for your RSS feed display box. To do so, adjust the numbers for w (width) and h (height) located below, "Set widget embed size." You can also adjust the border color for your box by clicking the color box beneath, "Border color" and selecting the desired color from the color palette that displays. 7. The code for your RSS box will display in the scrolling window beneath "Get the Code Here" on the left side of the page below the "Customize this Widget" section. Click into the scrolling window and select all code (control A on a PC, command A on a Mac). Then copy the code (control C on a PC, command C on Mac). 8. Next you are going to place the RSS feed widget on your iMax web site. Login to your iMax web site and click the "Web Site" button at the top. If you want to put the RSS feed on your homepage, click "Home Page." If you want to put it on another of your web pages, choose "Web Pages," then find the page you want to add it to and click the "Edit" link for that page. 9. You are now in edit mode on the page you want to place the RSS feed box on. Scroll to the place on the page where you wish to place the feed box and click into the nearest "Select New Section to Display" drop down menu. Choose "HTML" from the drop down menu. Click the "Add" button. 10. Check off the box under "Public Version" that says "Use this Version for Both Public and Private." Click into the editing box and paste in the code you created with Spring Widgets (control P on the PC, command P on a Mac). Click the "Add" button at the top. Click the "Return" button to go back to your page, then choose the "View Page" button near the top to view what you did. What are some real-estate related RSS feeds that you can add to your web site? To use one of these feeds, copy the URL for the feed (below) and follow the instructions in step 5 above. Click the feed link to view recent stories included in the feed.
